Creative Express Cards April 2002

CEX 26  Shoe Bouquet Card

Stamps:  Shoe, Bouquet, Small Shoe and Saying on Envelope by Me and Carrie Lou;  Other sayings by Penny Black and Stampendous!

Supplies needed:

double stick tape or glue
dries clear adhesive
color pencils (or markers)
pop dots:  1/16 inch

Instructions:

1.  Detail trim the shoe.  ***It is going to go onto support cardstock, so you place the image onto the cardstock and then detail trim.
2.  Color the complete image on the appropriate card piece (we used colored pencils).  Color just the flowers on the extra image.   On the "extra" flowers, be sure to color "over the edge" of each section.  Then, when it is cut out you will not have any white spots showing around the color.
3.  Layer the papers and cardstocks onto the main card.  ***The decorative sheet onto the white cardstock is a very narrow margin.  I tried it without the narrow white border and it just did not appeal to me as much as it did with the white.  Lay the pieces together and see what you think!!
4.  Layer the inside sayings, papers, and cardstock.
5.  Place the pop dots onto the back of the shoe (it is on cardstock at this point).
6.  Position the shoe onto the main card.
7.  Position the flowers as desired.
8.  Using the dries clear adhesive, glue the rhinestones and buttons to the main card.  Allow to dry.
9.  Color the envelope if desired.

CEX 27  May Day Pocket Card

Stamps by:  Pocket and Sayings by Darices;  A Tiskat saying by Azadi;  Computer Generated Saying as well.

Supplies needed:

double stick tape or glue
dries clear adhesive

Instructions:

1.  Place velvet pocket onto the supporting cardstock and detail trim.

4.  Layer the inside papers and cardstock and sayings to the main card.
5.  "Bend" the pocket so that it "gops" open--do not fold it however.
6.  Using the dries clear adhesive, apply glue around the edge of the pocket (not across the top opening of course).
7.  Position the pocket onto the card.  You will need to hold it stable for a minute or so until the glue gets tacky enough to hold it on its own.  Allow to dry.
8.  Using the dries clear adhesive, glue the buttons onto the pocket and by the "Happy May Day" saying.  Allow to dry.  ***Note, the pocket does not need to be completely dry and stable before you glue the buttons on.
9.  Fill with candy or tokens of anther sort!!

The May Day Tradition

The tradition of May Day originated in England.  After the harshness of the winter, villagers would celebrate the coming of Spring on May 1st.  During the festival, there would be a May Day Queen and her court, jesters, and dancers etc.  Obviously, this was a big celebration.  After the parade and the party in the village square subsided (early afternoon), the villagers would go out to the hills and pick wild flowers.  They would place the flowers into baskets, cones, or other containers and deliver them to their friends' homes.  However, who left the baskets was supposed to be a secret!!  Somehow over the years (and over the sea!!), the May Day Tradition evolved to include candy (we must be sweeter in America?!?!?).  However, anymore it would not be a good idea to leave a basket of candy at someone's door--I know I wouldn't eat any!!  So, the holiday again has evolved so that the identity of the giver is no longer a secret!!!  We hope you may have learned something new with this tradition.  Besides that, when you are a stamper, you want to make as many holidays as possible!!  ***Just a side note, one day when Marlean and her office friend, Keri were hungry for cake, they went through the calendar and discovered that if you celebrated every holiday all over the world, you could eat cake almost every day!!!!!  That is a very important discovery!!

CEX 28  May Day Baskets

Stamps by:  Basket by Darcies;  Side Bow by Azadi;  Top Bow by Art Gone Wild.  Computer generated sayings

Supplies needed:

double stick tape
dries clear adhesive
Decorative Scissors
Pop Dot  1/4 inch

Instuctions:

1.  Detail trim baskets.  Peel off the Peel'n'Stick and attach baskets to cardstock.  Trim again with a decorative scissors.  (Or you can straight trim the background cardstock).
2.  Detail trim the top bows.  The bows are going to go onto cardstock for support, so you could attach the bows to the cardstock first and trim once.  If you have limited strength in your cutting hand, you may wish to trim each layer separately.
3.  Detail trim the fuchsia bows (not on cardstock).
4. Place the "basket-shaped" pieces of Peel'n'Stick onto the lid--longest side to the top.
5.  One side at a time, place the baskets onto the Peel'n'Stick.
6.  Attach the side bows to the sides of the basket by simply peeling off the Peel'n'Stick and placing on.  Be sure to position them partially over both baskets to secure the sides.
7.Attach the handles together with a Pop Dot.
8.  Glue the bows onto each handle "somewhat back-to-back".  Clip the clothespin on to hold the bows until the glue dries.
9.  Layer the sayings onto the card.  Lace the ribbon through and tie it around the handles.
10.   Fill with the treats!!

CEX 29  Victorian Glove

Stamps by:  Glove by Me and Carrie Lou;  Sayings by Stampendous!; Printworks; My Sentiments Exactly

Supplies needed:

double stick tape or glue
dries clear adhesive
pop dots  1/8 inch
clothespins

Instructions

1.  *****Right away you will notice that your glove is on the support cardstock, but that the Peel'n'Stick right behind the "wrist" has not been removed.  This is because you will use that Peel'n'Stick to hold the back layer of lace.
2.  Detail trim the glove as you normally do.
3.  Have the lace ready.  Then, remove the remaining Peel'n'Stick.  Gather the lace as you go and allow it to stick to the Peel'n'Stick.  Firmly press to the cardstock.   It is quite easy despite how it sounds!!
4. Apply the dries clear adhesive to a small section of the top of the glove.  Gather the lace and hold it for a bit on each section.  Use a clothespin to hold it until it is completely dry.  Glue a little more gather--repeat until the lace is affixed to the glove and allow to dry.
5.  Attach the papers and cardstock to the main card.  There is a piece of beige stock cut the very same size as the lace vellum paper.  The vellum does not have strong enough color to stand alone.  Layer those two pieces together and trim if necessary.
6.  Remove the clothespins and glue the roses onto the glove.  Allow to dry.
7.  Complete the inside of the card (layering of course) and the envelope.
8.  Using 1/8 pop dots, attach the glove to the main card.
9.  Using the dries clear adhesive, attach the rhinestones to the glove.
10.  Using the dries clear adhesive, attach the accent roses to the main card.
11.  Allow everything to dry.

CEX 30  Victorian Fan Card

***Note:  The pink behind each card is just so the lace would appear when scanned.  Also, the green card did not scan in very well, but is very pretty.  Choose one color.

Stamps by:  Fan by The Cottage Stamper;  Sayings by Me and Carrie Lou;  Stampendous;  Darcies.

Supplies needed:

double stick tape or glue
dries clear adhesive

Instructions

1.  The fan needs to go onto supporting cardstock.  Then detail trim.
2.  Using the dries clear adhesive, glue the charm and bows onto the fan.  Allow to dry.
3.  Layer the papers and cardstock to the main card.
4.  Complete the inside of the card.
5.  Slightly bend the fan so "gops" open (like the May Day Pocket).
6.  Using the dries clear adhesive, attach the fan to the card leaving the top open.  Allow this to set-up.
7.  Using double stick tape (or Peel'n'Stick), fold over the side edges of the lace and secure.  This is done just so there is not a raw edge.
8.  Place a couple stripes of double stick tape or Peel'n'Stick onto the main card behind the fan.
9.  Gather the lace, position it down behind the fan, and secure down.
10.  Rather than an envelope, present this card in the presentation box that all the supplies arrived in!!  Lovely!!
